PROBLEM STATEMENT
Counterfeit drugs in Africa contribute to over 30% of medicines being fake, leading to an estimated 100,000 annual deaths, as per the WHO.
Genuine medicines are often unaffordable, further complicating the healthcare landscape.
The challenges extend to disrupting the overall delivery of health services, raising a pressing question: How can we address these intertwined issues effectively?
In a bid to get better understanding of our target audience, it was important to learn about their needs, motivations and frustrations and in this stage we conducted;
10
User Interviews
25
Surveys
What we learnt
During the research stage, a standout finding emerged from our interviews and surveys with pharmacy owners, procurement managers, and independent pharmacists across Africa. Key findings include
Counterfeit Drugs: Many pharmacy owners worry about fake medicines.
Complex Buying Process: It's hard to buy medicines efficiently
Need for Digital Tools: A digital platform could help with buying and managing medicines.
Transparency: Users want to know where medicines come from and if they're real.
Pinpointing Our Primary Persona
After understanding our target audience, I created two user personas representing our typical users.
This stage got me buzzing as this is the most interesting part of the design process for me. We had outline the issues customers faced, now it is time to brainstorm ideas
The User Journey
I began by crafting visual stories depicting how users would interact with the app. By mapping out this user journey, we identified key touchpoints where improvements could enhance the overall experience, driving engagement and satisfaction.
User Flow
The user flow for the Remedial Health app maps out the essential steps users follow, from installing the app to managing their purchases.
Early Iterations / Sketches
We refined the app’s copy to be clearer, helping users understand the app’s features more easily. Additionally, we simplified the login process by switching from a password-based system to a 4-digit PIN, making it faster and more convenient for users to access the app.
Following the user testing and revisions based on feedbacks, I designed the final look of the Remedial Health app. I wanted to make it easy to use and visually appealing

What Went Right
Our team's collaborative approach fostered alignment and shared purpose among designers, developers, and stakeholders. The incorporation of early user testing and feedback proved invaluable, allowing us to fine-tune the app's features and enhance user experience.
02.
Challenges Faced
One major challenge was integrating complex features, like flexible financing and secure payments, while keeping the app easy to use. Creating a simple yet effective onboarding process that explained the app’s benefits and verified new users also required several revisions.

Lesson Learnt and Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, we aim to improve the app based on user feedback and healthcare needs. We plan to add features like inventory analytics and more payment options to better serve users. Our goal is to streamline the pharmaceutical supply chain and make medical supplies more accessible across Africa.
